NEW  POST-COVID  REQUIREMENTS FOR KENYANS TRAVELLING ABROAD 

The world has begun to recover from the effects of the Corona Virus Pandemic: countries are opening their borders to international travel once more, and commercial travel is resuming. Governments all over the world have put in place new protocols for international travellers arriving in their territories. Find below a detailed list of the countries and destinations that are accepting Kenyans and the new COVID-related requirements needed for those specific countries.

1.  DUBAI
  • Tourist visas are only being issued in Dubai in the UAE.
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test result must be presented within 96 hours prior to boarding a flight to the UAE (Dubai).
  • All travellers to Dubai, including passengers connecting flights, must complete a health declaration form and give it to the staff at check-in.
  • If Dubai is your final destination you must complete a quarantine undertaking form given to you on board.
  • Health Screening procedures are in place at the airport in Dubai.
  • Travellers may need to take another  COVID-19 PCR test on arrival. If so you must quarantine at your residence until you receive your results.​
  • On arrival in the UAE one should download the COVID-19 DXB App and register their details on it.

2.   ABU DHABI
  • Currently, Abu Dhabi is not issuing tourist visas. However, one can get a tourist visa in Dubai and travel to Abu Dhabi via road.
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test or a negative laser test taken 48 hours or less before arriving in Abu Dhabi via road is required. 
  • Visitors from Outside Abu Dhabi who are staying in Abu Dhabi for 6 consecutive days or more must take a COVID-19 PCR test on the 6th day.

3.   RWANDA
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test result must be presented on arrival. The test must be taken 120 hours or less prior to departure.
  • On arrival in Rwanda, all passengers will be taken to a designated quarantine hotel of their choice and take another COVID-19 PCR test at their own expense. Travellers are required to stay at the quarantine hotel until they receive their negative test result. This will take approximately 24 hours after arrival.
  • One must fill in a Passenger Locater Form 72 hours prior to arrival in Rwanda.
  • All travellers must upload a designated hotel booking for their 24 hour quarantine prior to travel.


4.   ZANZIBAR
  • If your country or airline requires you to have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result to travel, then you are required to present the certificate on arrival. If you are not required by your country or airline to do so and you have signs and symptoms of COVID-19, you will undergo enhanced health screening at the airport and may be required to take a COVID-19 PCR test at the airport.
  • A Health Surveillance form must be filled before arrival and submitted to the port health authorities upon arrival.
  • There is no mandatory quarantine.

5.   EGYPT
  • A negative printed COVID-19 PCR test certificate must be presented on arrival at the airport in Egypt ( digital copies will not be accepted.) 
  • The test must be taken 72 hours prior to arrival and children under the age of six from all nationalities are exempt from this requirement.
  • The certificate should be in English or Arabic and it must contain the following information: the date and time the sample was taken, details on the type of sample taken for the swab and the stamp of the hospital or laboratory.
  • The certificate should contain no alterations and modifications (addition or deletion)
  • Transit passengers are exempted from the COVID-19 PCR test certificate requirement.
  • Health screening is done at the ports of entry.
  • A health declaration form must be completed. This is available online.
  • There is no mandatory quarantine.
  • There is an inter-city restriction in place.

6.   SINGAPORE
  • Travellers termed as Short-term visitors are not allowed to transit or enter Singapore. Exceptions include: returning residents of Singapore, Singapore Citizens with a Long-Term Pass, including passengers with a work pass, Student S Pass, Dependent S Pass, and Long-Term Visit Pass. The latter exceptions must have an Approval Letter for entry (ALE) issued by the Immigration Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate is not required upon entry.
  • Passengers who have travelled to India in the past 14 days must present a negative COVID-19 test certificate taken 72 hours before departure. The test must be taken by a recognized laboratory internationally acreddited or approved by the Indian givernment and it must be in english. Children 12 years old and below, permanent residents of Singapore and citizens of Singapore are exempted from the requirement.
  • Upon entry passengers must serve a mandatory 14 day quarantine at a designated Stay Home Notice facility.
  • After the 14 day mandatory quarantine COVID-19 testing will take place.
  • Note that the cost of the mandatory quarantine and COVID-19 PCR test will all be borne by the traveller.
  • Health Screening will take place at the ports of entry.
  • A health declaration form must be submitted Immigration and checkpoints authority 3 days prior to travel

7.   MALAYSIA
  • The following list of people are allowed to enter Malaysia: Malaysian nationals, Children and Spouses of Malaysian Nationals, Permanents residents of Malaysia with a MyPR card, Expatriates with a long term pass or employment pass category 1 and Diplomatic passport holders going on a diplomatic mission. International students must get travel authorization from the appropriate ministries.
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test is not required for entry.
  • One must undergo a swab test at the airport at their own cost.
  • All travellers must download and be registered on the MySehaterah app.
  • Health screening is done at the airport.
  • There is a mandatory 14-day quarantine at a government provided quarantine facility. This is at the travellers own expense.

8.   CAPE TOWN
  • Passengers travelling to South Africa must hold a negative Covid-19 test certificate obtained within 72 hours prior to departure, due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus. Passengers not holding a negative test certificate on arrival must quarantine.
  • Passengers will be subject to screening on arrival and those presenting symptoms of Covid-19 must quarantine until a repeat test is conducted.
  • Passengers travelling to South Africa must install the contact tracing app COVID Alert SA at https://sacoronavirus.co.za/covidalert/
  • Passengers must quarantine for up to 21 days on arrival in South Africa, due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus.
  • Passengers will have their temperature checked before departing from Kenya.

9.   MALDIVES
  • All tourists staying in the Maldives for a short-term stay must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result. The test must be conducted within 72 hours of departure.
  • Citizens of Maldives and holders of employment, student, marriage and dependent visas are exempted from the pre-arrival COVID-19 PCR test requirements.
  • A health declaration form must be filled in 24 hours prior to travel to the Maldives and the completion code of the form must be presented at the airport.
  • Passengers travelling as tourists must have a confirmed hotel reservation for their stay.
  • Health screening will be done at the airport.

10.   MAURITIUS
  • Residents and tourists travelling to Mauritius for long stays are allowed to enter Mauritius as from 1st October.
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken 5 days prior to travel must be presented on arrival in Mauritius.
  • A 14-day quarantine at an establishment approved by the government is mandatory.

11.   UNITED KINGDOM
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test result is not required to enter the United Kingdom. However, one should check in with their airline if one is needed for them to fly as a passenger.
  • All passengers must complete a passenger locator form 48 hours prior to arrival in the UK
  • All travellers must self-isolate at their accommodation for 14 days and provide information about there flight, transport, contact details and address during the 14 days of self-isolation.

12.   TANZANIA
  • If your country or airline requires you to have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result to travel, then you are required to present the certificate on arrival. If you are not required by your country or airline to do so and you have signs and symptoms of COVID-19, you will undergo enhanced health screening at the airport and may be required to take a COVID-19 PCR test at the airport.
  • A Health Surveillance form must be filled before arrival and submitted to the port health authorities upon arrival.
  • There is no mandatory quarantine.
  • There will be health screening done  at the airport if travelling by plane.

13.   AFGHANISTAN
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test is not required for entry.
  • There is no mandatory quarantine.
  • You do not need to provide details beyond what is in your passport and visa.
  • Temperature is checked on arrival. If your temperature is higher than 37.5°C, the government will advise you to self-quarantine.​

14.   ALBANIA
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test is not required for entry.
  • There is no mandatory quarantine.
  • Health screening will be done at the airport.

15.   ARUBA
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test result must be presented within 72 hours prior to boarding or you can take a PCR test on arrival at the airport in Aruba.
  • If you take the test in Aruba, you must quarantine for 24 hours until you receive your negative results. If the results are positive, you will quarantine at the expense of the mandatory COVID-19 health insurance.
  • All travellers to Aruba must complete an online immigration (ED) card prior to arrival.
  • All travellers to Aruba must purchase COVID-19 health insurance prior to travel.
  • There is no mandatory 14 day quarantine after taking the rapid test.
  • Health screening will be done at the airport.​
